Do you find that even though your closet is stuffed with clothes, you tend to wear the same things on repeat?

We gravitate towards the items that are most comfortable, or versatile, or that make us look and feel good, and tend to wear the rest infrequently. What if ALL your clothes were your favorites? Sound good? You might be ready for a capsule wardrobe!

capsule wardrobe is a small wardrobe of versatile pieces that can easily be mixed and matched to suit any occasion. It saves you time and mental energy when choosing what to wear (we already have enough decisions to make in a day!), it fosters greater sartorial creativity, and allows you to have your own “signature style.”

Clothing is almost too easy to accumulate. When we shop for other things, we might read reviews, compare prices, etc. But with clothing, we’re often making purchases on a whim, especially now that we’re shopping online so much more! This can lead to closets overflowing with clothes that we’re not in love with, but are unmotivated to get rid of. By taking some time to consider what you really need and like, you can shop proactively, rather than reactively.

If you’re feeling uninspired or overwhelmed by your clothing, watch this Big Rocks Organizing “Rightsizing from the Inside Out” presentation on rightsizing your closet and creating a capsule wardrobe.

I discuss the “whys” behind it, how to do it, and share some resources to help you get started

Here are the four guiding questions I cover in the presentation and to ask ourselves about our clothing:

  1. Is it comfortable?
  2. Is it the right size?
  3. Do I look good and feel good in it?
  4. Is this immediately wearable?

Here is my handy worksheet to help you rightsize your clothing. There are blank lines to add your own must-have categories, such as shoes, purses, socks, scarves, jewelry, belts, hats, etc. What category will you add?

If you feel overwhelmed, stuck, or just want to have more fun rightsizing your wardrobe, please reach out and we’d be glad to assist you!

Happy rightsizing!
